When you look at
the scriptures again, you will discover that generational curse had one origin
and that was in Adam's sin. But perhaps the most interesting to note about
Adam's sin is in the fact that God did not curse him. My eyes were opened to see the scripture again.
Genesis 3:17 "Then to Adam He said, “Because
you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I
commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for
your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. God informed
Adam that the ground was cursed because of his sin. In order words the ground
is no longer empowered to produce without your stress. What He said was in
implication is “Uptill now you could eat in rest and peace because the earth
was empowered (blessed)”.
Stress and labour became man's occupation because
Adam's sin brought all of creation into subjection to Satan. He literally
handed over all of creation to Satan. This was a serious offense. From then on
devils have borrowed the concept of curses so that no matter what people do
they won't not succeed. This idea is enshrined deep into cultures and
traditions, and sadly some churches.
There are many
pulpits that preach about a generational curse working in people’s life from Exodus
20:4-6 which says “You
shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven
above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not
bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a
jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to
the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but
showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my
commandments.
What many have failed to understand is that this is an Old Testament
concept for the Jews and that God made a promise to revoke this even in the Old
Testament. Look at what God declared in Jeremiah 31
29 “In
those days people will no longer say,
‘The
parents have eaten sour grapes,
and the children’s teeth are set on edge.’
30 Instead, everyone will die for their own
sin; whoever eats sour grapes—their own teeth will be set on edge.
31 “The days are coming,” declares
the Lord,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
32 It
will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors (at Sinai)
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them,”
declares the Lord.
33 “This
is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No
longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”
Adam’s disobedience introduced the curse into
the world and man’s failure to keep the law ensured that the curse was transferred
from generation to generation. Jesus came to put an end to this vicious circle.
His righteousness was imputed to us just as Adam’s was transferred making us
candidates for the curses. On the cross of Calvary was the final showdown for
Him to deal with the issue of generational curses. Now remember how it written “‘The parents have eaten sour
grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.’
John 19:28-30 (AMP)
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now
finished (ended), said in fulfillment of the Scripture, I thirst. 29 A vessel (jar) full of sour wine (vinegar) was placed there, so they put a sponge
soaked inthe sour wine on [a stalk, reed of] hyssop, and held it to
[His] mouth.
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine,
He said, It is finished! And He bowed His head and gave up His
spirit.
Jesus drank the sour grapes so that your teeth are no longer set on
edge. He took the curse for us so that you would get a generational blessing. You
are free from generational curses because His obedience and now you can live in
victory because it is based on the finished work. As nothing can undo the
finished work so it is impossible for you to placed under a curse.
So the good news is that Jesus came to reverse Adam's mistake, to
restore things so that his blessing will be our empowerment to succeed. So
Jesus wore a crown of thorns so that you could wear His crown of righteousness.
What a divine exchange! So that the generational curse in Adam will not be
passed to those who are born of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
Romans 5:16-18 "16 And the gift is not like
that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from
one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many
offenses resulted in justification. 17 For if by the one man’s offense death
reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of
the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment
came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous
act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.
Declare this: In Christ I am free. No generational
curse can work against me. I am generationally blessed in Jesus. I am empowered
to prosper and whatsoever I lay my hands to do shall prosper.
